Building A Barbie House With An Almost 4 Year Old? Also Ideas?

does it sound like it would work to make a doll house with my almost 4 year old cousin. she will be spending some time over at my house while her mom is in school and i thought we could make a house/ furniture together for her barbies. Also what are some easy ideas for furniture and stuff like that?

14|Aug|2009 1A book shelf would be a great start! That’s what we did for my doll house.
You can add curtains made out of scrape material on the walls and glue pictures of the outdoors so it looks like a real window. Or if you wanted to cut the wood to make windows you could see out of.
You could take wallpaper or paints and do each room in a different style and color. There are many things you can do. Just let your imagination run wild!!
The dollar store is a great place to look for things for the doll house. I know the ones around here have got Barbie size wooden chairs that you could use in your doll house.
If you want to make some furniture here are some ideas for you.
you could take paper towel tubes (or leftover wrapping paper tubes) and make chairs out of them by cutting away to make a seat.Then stuff the inside of the seat with batting or paper towels and glue some material over the the chair.
you can make a table out of popsicle sticks. Just glue them all together. The dollar store usually carry colored popsicle sticks if you would like those.

If you have some old plastic cups you could turn the cups upside down and put material over them to make a table. or even a type of bar stool.
You could make a bed out of cracker box or a smaller version of a ceral box to the size of Barbie. Or even a basket might work also. If you sew you can make a matteress out of material and stuffing.
You could use a plastic bowl for a bath tub.
You can make coat hangers out of pipe cleaners.
You could make a little closet out of a small shoe box or maybe cut down a cracker box,and use a chopstick for the bar going across.

14|Aug|2009 2are you making it out of wood and want it to last? You can go to paint store ask for some wallpaper samples books that they are no longer using. Also you can get scrap fabric for window trimming. If you can not sew use a stapler!You can take small dixie cups to use for furniture. just glue or staple it with fabric or with paint. Do not try to do in one day. One day do the house even out of shoe boxes and bigger boxes. Tape with duck tape next day paint outside and next day wall paper.Make it fun. not work and that will give you something to do each day and her something to look forward to. Also use cookie cutters to trace and color for fun.
