What a great question!! Friends of mine are porcelain doll makers and they have competitions where they make miniature rooms, put miniature furniture, lighting, and lots of other cute things to go with the tiny dolls that they make.
Some of them are really intricate–but you can do this for yourself and keep it simple by starting with a large cardboard box, take the top and front off of the box. Spray the outside of the box a solid color and let dry well. If you want it to be a two story house, purchase some foam core and cut it to fit the inside of your “house”.
Using some push pins, push them through the outside into the foam core. When it’s level, use some Tacky glue and lay it along the edge of the floor on the underside–let dry well. Remove all push pins except the ones in the 4 corners. Now, you can make the walls and install them in the same way. If you are going to use wallpaper, it should be put on before you glue the walls in place. You can get contact paper that has wood grain to put on the “floor”, and can cut windows in the walls by making a slot and a long cut above and below–then fold the two pieces out to make “shutters”.
There are stores that specialize in miniature things like rugs,
furniture, tiny foods and appliances as well as beds, flower pots, landscaping, etc. You can have a lot of fun with this.
Good luck!
