This does sound like homework. But if you really were reading the play and into it you would realize and know the answer. But I’ll only answer a little if you REALLY DON’t KNOW. Bascially back on those days women didn’t have much freedom as they do today. Women had to go by what society said they had to do. It’s like if you were born a girl in those days your life was already predetermined for you.You were expected to get married, stay home and have kids and take care of the home. But what Ibsen was trying to show in the play was that the times were slowly changing. Women were breaking away from those sterotypical roles and making a life for themself. It was unheard of for a woman to leave her husband unlike it is today. In those days it would cause great controversy.
Anyhow that’s all i have to say. You could go from that. I gave you some background info.
