I have the Tiny Thumbelina. She was the last doll I received and it was the first year she came out. I remember taking her to my grandmothers house on Christmas and everyone marveled about how life like she looked and moved like a newborn when you wound up the knob that was on her back. Mom also gave me the carrying case with clothes for her. She is in pristine condition.
I also have a Barbie doll complete with her black and pink carrying case. She was circa 1961 with the sort of Jackie Kennedy look. Mom bought some clothes for her but also made many. These are put back for my daughters. I brought them out some years ago to show them and they were amazed. Tiny Thumbelina still moves just like a newborn.
How about it laidies, do you still have some cherished dolls?

22|Feb|2010 1No, mine was a baby doll that only had one leg and they used it as baby Jesus in the Christmas program for years because it looked so real!!! But, I saved my daughter’s dolls and now her daughter has them!! One is all hand made with Shirley Temple curls!!!

22|Feb|2010 2I remember that doll. . . Tiny Thumbelina ! There was a woman who rode the same bus I did everyday, to and from work, who carried one, just so she could get a seat on the bus. It was that real looking !
I do not have any of my own dolls, they were given to smaller cousins, but I do have one that was my mothers. . . she received it for Christmas in 1930. A China head baby with a cloth body. .made in Germany. . I treasure it.

22|Feb|2010 3No, but I wish I had all my Barbies and accessories from the 1960’s. I must have had hundreds of outfits for my Barbie’s!!!!!!! The one thing I still have from my childhood is a Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer book I got from my mom when I was about 8 or so (I’m now 50).

22|Feb|2010 4Good grief no. But I had a Betsy Wetsy, and also a Tony Doll. Over a period of time the Betsy Wetsy rotted around the middle from the accumultion of water. The Tony Doll was fun. You could give it a perm. Well, it was fun at the time.

22|Feb|2010 6I dearly loved my Betsy Wetsy & Cindy dolls, but they are long gone. I never did figure out what happened to them. I suspect my dad threw them out when we moved into our brand new home in the early 60’s. He would have done such a thing without giving it a second thought.

22|Feb|2010 7Yes I do. Do you remember the soft rubber dolls? I still have mine. I would play for hours with her. Mother would laugh at me because I named her “Mildew” don’t ask me why, I guess it was just a new word. Thanks for the memories.

22|Feb|2010 8No, all my dolls were destroyed by my brother and I gave away my Barbie, Midge, Ken Allen, Ricky , Skipper and Scooter, regret having done so. But I do have my very first stuffed monkey and he is 52 years now.

23|Feb|2010 9I got a new doll for Christmas every year, but they are all gone. When I graduated from high school, I joined the Army, my parents downsized their home and lots of things were disposed of.

23|Feb|2010 10I still have a ‘Toni’ doll that my aunts bought for me. You could curl it’s hair. It is a stiff doll, feels sort of like a heavy plastic and she isn’t in pristine condition, but I can’t give her up.

23|Feb|2010 11Of course. And my teddy.
My mum kept my doll that walks. She took her to the doll doctor one day and had her spruced up. She lets her grand daughters look at it sometimes.

23|Feb|2010 13My brothers trashed all of mine too. They were usually dismembered.

24|Feb|2010 15It is great, I had four brothers in my family my dolls didn’t last long.

24|Feb|2010 16My poor dolls didn’t survive my childhood. Or should I say they didn’t survive my brother’s childhood? He gave them haircuts and tattoos. Even operated on a couple of them. I would cry and scream and beat him up but he always found a way to mutilate his next victim. I gave up on having a doll after about 1st or 2nd grade.
Mom did store (hide?) one of my dolls in a closet at her house for many years. It was a Betsy-Wetsy doll that I cuddled and loved when I was a little girl. It drank from a bottle and wet it’s diaper. She ended up with tattoos, like the rest of my dolls.
